customer love – a bit of vintage music

What better way to start off a Monday than with a few lovely photos {and a large cup of coffee!}? This morning I have a few gorgeous pictures from a customer’s watercolor and vintage music themed wedding – they’re so pretty!waterclor wedding She used our Vintage Music Confetti Hearts to scatter around the guest book table, adding a layer of texture and interest to the decor.watercolor and vintage music themed wedding on the Path Less TraveledAnd then her niece scattered the hearts on the guest tables – and even on TOP of the flowers! I love this idea –  and brought the look together with style and charm.

Thank you so much for sharing these lovely images, Simone! Your wedding was lovely, and I hope you and your new husband are enjoying a wonderful season as newlyweds, and that you will be blessed with a lifetime of joy.

Do you have photos that you’d like to share? If so, you can either email them to me at elizabeth@pltmarket.com or tag them with #thepathlesstraveledmarket on Instagram {as long as you have a public profile :)} – we’d all love to see your ideas! Also, I often send “thank you” coupons to the lovelies who let me share their photos with you – so if you’re looking for a coupon for your next order, sharing photos is a great way to get a discount!

hello again, Loves!

hello again, Loves!

Well, hello again :)

It has been  …far too long. And I apologize for the site being down for FOUR months {Gah!!! Too long!!!}! There is so much that I missed sharing with you, so much that has happened in our lives.

How has your summer been? {and spring also, since I was gone for that, too!}

backyard funWe have been so incredibly busy with the shop, and God has been leading our little family with it {more on that later}.

backyard funSummer has been cool here, and the kids have been growing like weeds. Olivia is talking, and talking about everything {so, so incredibly sweet}.

I can’t wait to catch up with you lovelies in the days and weeks to come, and share some of the projects we’ve been working on! In the meantime, I’d love to hear what you’ve been up to {vacations? new babies? home projects?}.

The last month and half have been busy. Wonderfully busy. And I’m sure you’ve noticed a few “time gaps” here on the blog, and you know what? It’s okay. {at least, that’s what I keep telling myself!}

God has been blessing us with the increase in business we’ve been praying for, and we are sooooo extremely grateful! Of course, that busyness often translates into me needing to make some choices – choices between blogging and other things {you know, folding the laundry, “outside time” with the kids, gardening, knitting, actually completing my Bible study … stuff like that}. And lately I’ve been making choices toward my family, and away from blogging. And I know you understand.

Because this little bit of Indian Summer won’t ever come back, Olivia will never have another summer where she’s learning to crawl through the grass, Ian will only think the wading pool is his ocean for so long, and Emma Grace is growing like a weed. Because we need to enjoy it.  And enjoying it I am.

It won’t always be like this, only for a short season. Seasons like this are a good thing! The frenetic busyness is great! But just as great is the slow, purposeful enjoying of the moments that only come around once in a lifetime. Anyway, I’ll still be blogging. {actually, I have several terrific posts lined up that I know you’ll love!} But also, I’m working on taking time to slow down, making room in my days for the cherishing of little hands showing me “pretty rocks”, tiny blue eyes shining with joy and little sweaty curls of baby hair.

<3

p.s. thank you all so much for your support and encouragement after my last post! I really appreciated your kindness and all of you who emailed requesting her to remove my post. Thankfully, the blogger has since removed my content from her site.

p.p.s. we have some new changes coming to the site! Hopefully in the next few days we’ll be able to completely overhaul the checkout procedure, streamlining it and enabling you to use any form of payment you’d like {not just PayPal} and I’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready :)

a Labor Day sale!

a Labor Day sale!

Labor Day decor
Happy Labor Day! I’ve been planning on sharing our summer decor for … all summer {best intentions, eh?} and realized that if I was ever going to, now was the time! red, white and blue decor After Ian’s Car themed birthday, I was loving the “Americana” feel of all the party decorations, and decided to go with it as a summer theme. :) After I took down the cars and birthday banner, I added a few more things from years past and from the shop, moving them around a bit over the course of the summer. red, white and blue patriotic decor The Large Book Star Garland is surprisingly durable! I’ve had it draped on our shelf for 3 months now, and there’s only been one incident with a tear {and that one was my fault – not the kids ;)}. It eases nicely into Autumn, too! And the Red, White and Blue Star Cake Garland has been a fun pop of color in my little pot of dried boxwood, and looked sweet with the patriotic colored candles.
red, white and blue patriotic decor red, white and blue patriotic decorI made the embellished lanterns from a Martha Stewart tutorial a few years ago, and was happy to see that they had survived the time in storage {a.k.a. a file box in the closet that I had forgotten about}. To finish off our “dining room” area, I draped a Red, White and Blue Large Star Garland over the top of our curtains and hung a large Navy Star on either end.red, white and blue patriotic decorStar dessert toppers aren’t just for desserts! They add such a fun touch to just about anything, and I’ve really been enjoying having a cluster of red, white and blue stars in a pewter vase on the shelf by our front door. {“love” print from Recipe For Crazy}

Do you have any plans for the long weekend? My husband actually gets Labor Day off this year {perhaps the first time since we’ve been married – yay!} and we’re hoping to get a few house projects done. Growing up, my dad used to remind us that one of the best ways to celebrate the American worker was to be an American worker – and then tell us what the project for the day was! :) It didn’t used to be too much fun {except we always had a wonderful barbecue at then end of the day – mmm!}, but now that there’s the possibility that I could have a freshly painted bedroom? It sounds great!

And, not to leave you without a special sale for the Labor Day weekend {maybe a perfect time to stock up on decor and dessert toppers for fall celebrations?}, I have a coupon code for you! Use code LABORDAY20 for 20% off of any order in between now and midnight Monday!

I hope you all have a blessed, relaxing weekend <3

I love how easy and carefree zinnias and cosmos are! {and when it comes to gardening in this current life season, easy is good!} They tolerate all sorts of abuse, and just when the rest of the yard is tired from the length and heat of the summer, they are at their finest. And aren’t those double {or are the triple?} “firework” zinnias just spectacular?!

Do you have something special brightening your days today? Something that makes you smile each time you see it?

’till tomorrow, <3

end of summer {Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream recipe}

end of summer {Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream recipe}

Oh my, we’re already looking at the end of Summer! In just one week it will be Labor Day here in the US, the day that traditionally signals the end of Summer and the closing of the community swimming pools {and the end of wearing white!} and the begin of Fall. Some of you with kids have already been back in your school routine for a month {the summers seem to keep getting shorter, don’t they?} and some of you won’t start until after Labor Day – but either way, the weather still says “Summer” and every last bit of it should be enjoyed … and what better way than with home made ice cream, of course!!!

My sister’s favorite flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip, and every few years I’ve tried my hand at making a yummy home made version – with varying results. Most recipes I’ve tried call for mint extract to provide the minty lightness, and I’ve found that usually it gave the ice cream an odd, “fake” flavor – not what I have in mind when I’m making ice cream from scratch! So, the other day I was missing my sister, had Mint Chocolate Chip on the brain again, and decided to give it another try. A few weeks ago I made a coconut ice cream recipe from Annie’s Eats {sooooo yummy! and it’s a simple, quick one, too :)} made from coconut milk that had the coconut flavor strengthen by steeping some flaked coconut in the milk. Yum! And so the idea for this version, spun off of hers and tweaked to include chocolate, was born.

16 oz half and half {or 1 cup heavy cream and 1 cup milk}

1/2 cup sugar

a sprig of fresh mint {mine was a gift from CameronHomemade – so kind of her!}

4 {+} oz chocolate

an ice cream maker

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream - with fresh mintCombine the half and half, sugar and mint in a saucepan and heat until the sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally. Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream - with fresh mintRemove from heat and let steep for 10-30 minutes. {the longer you let the mint sit in the cream, the stronger your flavor will be – I let mine sit a bit too long {closer to 30 minutes}, resulting in a stronger mint flavor than I was looking for, but it’s still delicious!}Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream - with fresh mint Remove the mint from the cream, straining if needed.DSC_0011 Chill your cream mixture thoroughly, overnight is best. {If you can’t wait, though, you can make an ice bath to speed up the process – place ice and water in a bowl larger than the one your mixture is in, place your cream bowl in the ice water and stir occasionally.}DSC_0012 Chocolate! I used a mix of Trader Joe’s Dark and 72% Dark, and the result was delicious!DSC_0015 DSC_0016 Chop your chocolate – I was looking for chocolate slivers and shards for this version, but any type of chop will work :)DSC_0019DSC_0005 Once your cream mixture is chilled, pour into your ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer’s directions, adding the chocolate near the end of the process.an easy Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Recipe - made with fresh mint! And then, enjoy! How do you like yours – cone or bowl? Or straight out of the container? ;) I love how this recipe turned out! I think I’d like to try some chocolate mint next time instead of spearmint to strengthen the chocolate flavor … mmm! an easy Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Recipe - made with fresh mint!

To celebrate the last {traditional} week of Summer, we are unveiling a new feature here on the site – a special selection of Special FindsHere you will find special, one-time finds with limited quantities that we have enjoyed in our home and are excited to share with you. We are looking forward to providing product reviews and also some “how-to’s” through the blog, and hope you enjoy them as much as we do. :) Our most recent find is {wait for it ……………} an ice cream maker! I hope that you enjoy these fun, brightly colored machines as much as we have ours. They are the electric, “ice-less” variety, which means that, if you store yours in your freezer as we do, you can have home made ice cream in under half an hour. Seriously, it’s the best! :)

Do you have plans for this last week of Summer? Will they include ice cream? ;)

the Cars party

the Cars party

Ah, the last installment of the Cars party – and the last one of {what turned into being} the series!

Cars themed birthday party on the Path Less TraveledCars themed birthday party on the Path Less TraveledCars themed birthday party on the Path Less TraveledCars themed birthday party on the Path Less TraveledCars themed birthday party on the Path Less TraveledCars themed birthday party on the Path Less TraveledCars themed birthday party on the Path Less TraveledCars themed birthday party on the Path Less TraveledCars themed birthday party on the Path Less Traveled

It was such a fun, relaxed type of party. We kept it pretty low key {as far as three-year-old’s parties go} and kept the guests to just family. Ian loved showing his cousin how to use the car track that John made and “do racin’!” We listened to the Beach Boys channel on Pandora, and the younger guests played “pass the Parcel” and had a small water fight {it happened to be raining during part of the party, so why not get wetter, right?}. Ian absolutely adored the Cars cake, and it was the sweetest thing ever to see how excited he was to stand in the middle of us all, soaking up the love and attention as we sang “Happy Birthday” to him! :)

He received some of the sweetest things – and even got his very first tool bag {with real tools!}. Isn’t it amazing how much delight kids can get out of a simple gift?

Here’s the sneak peek, part one and part two of the party {since I have apparently made it into a mini series :)} The balloon garland tutorial is here, and the party supplies that I didn’t already have, make or use from my shop are from the Dollar Tree.

And that wraps up Ian’s Cars themed birthday! There are so many other things that I could add, but I think I might have said enough :) Do you have any tips for throwing a kid’s birthday party? What are some of your favorite games?

I’m hoping to have a sweet party-themed How Tuesday for you tomorrow. In other news … the Facebook fan page is getting close to 200 fans!  As soon as we reach 200 I’ll have a giveaway {hint: the prize is going to be sparkly!} for a brand new, yet to be released shop item. Share the fun with your friends to get us there even faster :D

the Cars party! {part two}

the Cars party! {part two}

Ah, the best laid plans! I started out the week planning to share all sorts of birthday ideas with you lovelies, and then … a {most precious and adorable} teething baby {who wanted to be held all night}, kids with colds who needed their mama and somehow my {sleep deprived, foggy and semi incoherent} thoughts just didn’t make onto the blog. But now, the little are better, I’m more rested and ready to share!

Anyone ready for part two of the Cars party? {looking for part one? or the sneak peek? You can find them here and here}

Cars themed party on the Path Less Traveled I had seen a super fun pool-noodle turned car race track on Pinterest, and picked up a noodle at the Dollar store when I was getting the a few other things for the party {side note – the Dollar Tree is an excellent source for streamers, cake plates, napkins, mylar balloons and plastic tables cloths!}, and it turned out to be a bit too small for the cars {but perfect for marbles}. John improvised and made a track using a large piece of cardboard, and it turned out even better for Ian, since most of cars are bigger than Matchbox size :) The kiddos loved hurling the cars down the “track”, racing to catch them at the bottom and then running back to the top to do it again.Cars themed party on the Path Less Traveled Ian was soooo tickled with his Cars cake from Sam’s Club! And with the stickers and temporary tattoos that we used as party favors :)Cars themed party on the Path Less Traveledthe indoor eating area – at lunch time {the birthday boy requested corn dogs for lunch}

The balloon garland was so fun – and easy! – to make! You can find the tutorial that I made for it here. And do you see the “road” style table cloth? It was another thing that I had found on Pinterest, and super simple to make happen. Just cut a black plastic cloth in half the long way and then attach 1″ x 6″ strips of yellow construction paper down the middle using double sided tape.Cars themed party on the Path Less Traveledview of our dining room from the front of our house – I love the added dimension and pop of color that the red and blue paper stars added!Cars themed party on the Path Less TraveledCars themed party on the Path Less Traveledfrom the kitchen toward the dining room – there were fire engines on the shelf under the photo wall and presents on the piano

The outdoor eating area, with another “road” style table cloth. I used a bunch of red and white streamers and red and white paper stars to bring a party feel to the tent, and they were so lovely as they swayed in the evening breeze :)

So there you have part two – I’ll be sharing the rest of the party soon!

our 4th

our 4th

Our 4th of July celebration was a bit low key this year, but we sure did celebrate!

4th of July fun

Olivia in the wading pool4th of July spreaddeviled eggs with patriotic starsa Jello flag yummy food and happy kids all tuckered out from celebratingsparklers darling girl darling girl darling girl the two of usDSC_0072 DSC_0075 DSC_0102 DSC_0119 DSC_0109

John had to work for most of the day, so the kiddlets and I enjoyed a quite day at home – PB&J for lunch and some wading pool fun! Olivia played in the pool for the first time ever and really enjoyed herself :)

After late naps {to ensure cheerfulness for a late night of fireworks!}, the kids and I met John at his parents’ home where we spent the rest of the evening. We had some delicious BBQ and a full spread of summer foods – even star topped deviled eggs! Olivia was worn out by all the fun and put herself down for a pre-fireworks nap :)

Ian got to experience his first sparkler {he LOVED it!} and Emma Grace kept asking when it would be dark, and at one point even asked if I could “set the timer for it to be fireworks” – darling girl! It’s so hard to wait when you’re 4 {or 27 :)}.

The fireworks were well worth the wait – in Indiana you are allowed to shoot off some really fun ones! Emma Grace and Ian were excited to wear some ear protection {Em: “mine are pink!”} and we sat around a bon fire as my brother-in-laws masterminded the show.

All in all, it was a quiet, relaxing day. I thought a bit about freedom – how it is so easy to allow it to be eroded until the the very word is only a hollow husk, and how both as a nation, as individuals we must be vigilant. And how I am extremely grateful for those who have sacrificed for my freedom, for the One who died for me to be forever free.

How about you? Did you have a chance to celebrate this weekend?

glorious skies

glorious skies

The skies over Indiana can be glorious.

True, Indiana may not  be able to boast of having the mountains that I grew up loving, but it does have glorious, wide open, sometimes breathtaking skies. And far too often I’m too busy to notice.

I get so wrapped up in being wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend and handmade business owner that I forget to take the moments needed to absorb the beauty I love so dearly and rest.

Does the same thing ever happen to you?

My soul needs rest just as much as my body. It needs time to refocus on the Creator in order to create well, but too often I push that aside for “later” or “when I’m not so busy”.

Today I’m purposing to pull back just a bit from this virtual world {if only for a day}, to leave your orders for tomorrow, to take the time to soak in the beauty that we have been given and to cherish the moments.

And I hope you that are doing the same <3

p.s. do you have any tips to help yourself rest in this busy world? please share!

p.p.s. here are some other thoughts on resting your soul and finding joy
