one of my favorite comfort foods

one of my favorite comfort foods

Have I mentioned this recipe here before? Maybe? Oh wait, I have. Oh well! The photos I took this time around are a little prettier :)

My Gramma used to make this for Easter every year {and also most summer events}, and now when I think of spring, or my Gramma, this is one dish that is always in the front of my mind. Shetaught me the recipe when I was staying with her for a few weeks one summer and it is so simple that even a 10-12 year old can remember it. And it’s really yummy, too.

customer love – a bit of vintage music

customer love – a bit of vintage music

What better way to start off a Monday than with a few lovely photos {and a large cup of coffee!}? This morning I have a few gorgeous pictures from a customer’s watercolor and vintage music themed wedding – they’re so pretty!waterclor wedding She used our Vintage Music Confetti Hearts to scatter around the guest book table, adding a layer of texture and interest to the decor.watercolor and vintage music themed wedding on the Path Less TraveledAnd then her niece scattered the hearts on the guest tables – and even on TOP of the flowers! I love this idea –  and brought the look together with style and charm.

Thank you so much for sharing these lovely images, Simone! Your wedding was lovely, and I hope you and your new husband are enjoying a wonderful season as newlyweds, and that you will be blessed with a lifetime of joy.

Do you have photos that you’d like to share? If so, you can either email them to me at elizabeth@pltmarket.com or tag them with #thepathlesstraveledmarket on Instagram {as long as you have a public profile :)} – we’d all love to see your ideas! Also, I often send “thank you” coupons to the lovelies who let me share their photos with you – so if you’re looking for a coupon for your next order, sharing photos is a great way to get a discount!

Chair Garland Decor Ideas {a continuing series}

Chair Garland Decor Ideas {a continuing series}

Have you heard? The chair garlands in the shop aren’t just for decorating chairs!
When it comes to using these petite garlands, there are so many options that chairs are only the the start! This is the beginning of a continuing series where I’ll share some of my ideas with you {and, if you’d like to share some of yours, I’ll post them as well!}

Use a chair garland to decorate a frame – this has been such a fun way to add some quick, seasonally appropriate, decor to my photo wall!

For Valentine’s Day I had the Red and White Heart Garland here, and as the spring holidays approached I switched it to this sweet Doily Garland. I find that they add a perfect touch of softness and unexpected color and am in love with this idea <3

a recap of love

a recap of love

Did you have a lovely Mother’s Day yesterday? I know it’s a joy-full day for some of you and a bittersweet day for others, and for some of you a day full of sorrow – whatever your emotion, I hope you were able to enjoy the spring day and soak in the ones you love <3

Mother's Day RosesOur Mother’s Day was full of family – both our imediate little brood {who woke up at 7, crying of course … the dreamed-of breakfast in bed might need to wait a few more years!} and my husband’s family.

As far as gifts go, there are two that are making me smile: last weekend John sent me to Lowe’s to pick out some flowers, and I brought home this lovely light pink Knock Out Rose, and it’s already blooming! I LOVE flowers, especially roses, and seeing this out in the yard from the kitchen window has definitely made me feel loved <3

And then yesterday afternoon I went shopping with two of my sister-in-laws for some summer wardrobe refreshers , and I found the sweetest white sundress {and it was 50% cheaper in the store than online – score!}.

Some of the reviews online say that they think it’s a bit short, but being a bit short myself I found it to be the perfect skim-my-knees length :) Now that I’m almost back to my pre-baby weight {notice I didn’t say “shape?”}, I’m really looking forward to wearing pretty little things again! And maybe John and I can go out somewhere? {Sweetie, that was a hint …}

But the best gift? The kiddos coming up to me throughout the day, throwing their arms around me and declaring “happy birthday, Mommy!” or “happy Valentine’s Day, Mommy!” or “guess what? I love you Mommy!” and then near the end of the day {when they were starting to get the hang of it} “happy Mom’s Day, Mommy!”. {melts me every time!}

Love to you all,

XO

little Instagram pieces

little Instagram pieces

the photos that I capture on Instagram are just little pieces of our life, and it’s really interesting to see what moments I capture {and which ones I don’t} – of course, it seems as if {since I instagram from our iPad} I only capture the things that stand still. Which of course explains why Emma Grace, Ian and John don’t show up very often, but flowers, projects and Olivia do. :)

here are some of the little pieces of this last week: Monday morning loveliness on our kitchen windowsill <3

I make our black beans from scratch – both to save money and because I like knowing what is {and isn’t!} in our food. Usually I do the “quick soak” method {boil them for an hour and then rinse and cook} because  I’m usually making them when we actually need them and not ahead of time, but this week I thought ahead and let them sit overnight. I was so surprised to be greeted by these lovely purple gems when I rinsed them out the next morning! Is it just my beans that do this? Or have you experienced it, too?
A custom cake garland order – triple layered gold scallops! It will be so lovely on her cake, don’t you think?

Emma Grace asked me to make her a braid “all the way down” so that she could be like Rapunzel – the braid reached her shoulder blades, and she decided that might be good enough :)

May Day

May Day

Happy May Day!

May Day giftsAren’t these kiddos just the cutest you’ve ever seen? ;) Of course, I might be just a little bit biased!

May Day gifts May Day is quite close to the end of our semester of Bible study, and I had the bright idea of combining a May Day goody with a teacher appreciation gift {two in one! score!} Yesterday the little ones made up some jumbo rice crispy treats {such a simple recipe that allowed them to “help”} to give to their teachers this morning, and then this morning I helped them package them up in some sweet little bags and sign their name to a note that I had written. As a finishing springy touch, I tucked a Butterfly Cupcake Pick in each and it was just the extra bit of color and “special-ness” that the gifts needed.

The goody bags were a hit! Of course, it would be a bit hard not to be thrilled with anything these cuties handed you {try not melting at those smiles, I dare you!} :)

Do you celebrate May Day? I’d love to teach our children about May-poles and posies next year – do you have any traditions or memories that you’d like to share?

blooms in our yard – they make me soooo happy! clockwise: anemones, our new peach tree, returning tulips and sprouting veggies. If only I could keep these lovelies all year long <3IMG_2295 packing up a bunch of Atlas Heart Cupcake Toppers – they are always so lovely!IMG_2298John turned on the radio when he arrived home Monday afternoon and my heart broke – it seems as if there has been a fresh tragedy every day to add to our prayers. It makes my heart long for heaven more, but also yearn to love my darlings that much harder. “for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a strong mind”
frametastic-1 we introduced Dessert Garlands to the site!IMG_2304 Olivia came down with a fever on Tuesday/Wednesday and then shared it with me – we are just now catching up with everything that went undone while we did extra cuddling <3IMG_2312the sewing corner – so many, many miles of garland get sewn here, so many projects for loved ones and tiny clothes made {and mended}
IMG_2313 feeling better – yay!!!I came back to my project after getting the kiddos a snack one morning to find this: a Nerf gun, dart and little boy tools mingled with the white wedding hearts ;D4bc8af3ea9d911e284fa22000a1f9c87_7 so much love! a bundle of 75 red, pink and white heart dessert toppers, each stamped with “LOVE”IMG_2328 on Saturday I was all caught up with orders {yippee!} and took the rest of the day to catch up on cleaning – and baking. Spring has sprung {finally} and a coupon for you

Spring has sprung {finally} and a coupon for you

Spring has finally sprung and it is lovely.

Spring has sprung via the Path Less Traveled I’ve loved anemones for a long time, but they’re a little too pricy as cut flowers for me to indulge – last year I saw a bag of starts for them and scooped them up. It looks like they might be purple or blue and I can hardly wait to see them! Now I’ll get to enjoy them spring after spring, year after year, and maybe as they spread, be able to divide them and share?DSC_0017 pinky orange tulips – another new one from last fall. I’m looking forward to seeing what color they turn out to be :)DSC_0018 faithful daffodils – I planted these the first fall we were here and they’ve been multiplying ever since. Always so cheery!DSC_0019 pots of seeds! hopefully the seedlings will show their heads soon :)DSC_0021sunny daffodils keeping the candles on our table company :)

Has spring come to your neck of the woods? Or, if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, have you been embracing cooler temps? How do you celebrate the changing seasons?

I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing the trees blooming – of course the trees at my parents’ home in California bloomed quite some time ago and I’ve also been seeing some bloggers’ photos of snow. :) Your location sure does make a difference!

I know many of you are beginning to – or are already in the midst of – planning your late spring and early summer events. Baby showers, birthday parties, Mother’s Day, weddings and graduations – there are so many coming up! To help you get an edge as you prep and plan, I’m offering a coupon to you lovely ones – 20% off of any order of $10 or more! Just enter spring13 as you check out and it will recalculate your total for you. This coupon will be valid for this week only, though, and expires on Sunday April 14, so you might want to take advantage of it while it’s here :)
