The last month and half have been busy. Wonderfully busy. And I’m sure you’ve noticed a few “time gaps” here on the blog, and you know what? It’s okay. {at least, that’s what I keep telling myself!}

God has been blessing us with the increase in business we’ve been praying for, and we are sooooo extremely grateful! Of course, that busyness often translates into me needing to make some choices – choices between blogging and other things {you know, folding the laundry, “outside time” with the kids, gardening, knitting, actually completing my Bible study … stuff like that}. And lately I’ve been making choices toward my family, and away from blogging. And I know you understand.

Because this little bit of Indian Summer won’t ever come back, Olivia will never have another summer where she’s learning to crawl through the grass, Ian will only think the wading pool is his ocean for so long, and Emma Grace is growing like a weed. Because we need to enjoy it.  And enjoying it I am.

It won’t always be like this, only for a short season. Seasons like this are a good thing! The frenetic busyness is great! But just as great is the slow, purposeful enjoying of the moments that only come around once in a lifetime. Anyway, I’ll still be blogging. {actually, I have several terrific posts lined up that I know you’ll love!} But also, I’m working on taking time to slow down, making room in my days for the cherishing of little hands showing me “pretty rocks”, tiny blue eyes shining with joy and little sweaty curls of baby hair.

p.s. thank you all so much for your support and encouragement after my last post! I really appreciated your kindness and all of you who emailed requesting her to remove my post. Thankfully, the blogger has since removed my content from her site.

p.p.s. we have some new changes coming to the site! Hopefully in the next few days we’ll be able to completely overhaul the checkout procedure, streamlining it and enabling you to use any form of payment you’d like {not just PayPal} and I’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready :)

a Labor Day sale!

a Labor Day sale!

Labor Day decor
Happy Labor Day! I’ve been planning on sharing our summer decor for … all summer {best intentions, eh?} and realized that if I was ever going to, now was the time! red, white and blue decor After Ian’s Car themed birthday, I was loving the “Americana” feel of all the party decorations, and decided to go with it as a summer theme. :) After I took down the cars and birthday banner, I added a few more things from years past and from the shop, moving them around a bit over the course of the summer. red, white and blue patriotic decor The Large Book Star Garland is surprisingly durable! I’ve had it draped on our shelf for 3 months now, and there’s only been one incident with a tear {and that one was my fault – not the kids ;)}. It eases nicely into Autumn, too! And the Red, White and Blue Star Cake Garland has been a fun pop of color in my little pot of dried boxwood, and looked sweet with the patriotic colored candles.
red, white and blue patriotic decor red, white and blue patriotic decorI made the embellished lanterns from a Martha Stewart tutorial a few years ago, and was happy to see that they had survived the time in storage {a.k.a. a file box in the closet that I had forgotten about}. To finish off our “dining room” area, I draped a Red, White and Blue Large Star Garland over the top of our curtains and hung a large Navy Star on either end.red, white and blue patriotic decorStar dessert toppers aren’t just for desserts! They add such a fun touch to just about anything, and I’ve really been enjoying having a cluster of red, white and blue stars in a pewter vase on the shelf by our front door. {“love” print from Recipe For Crazy}

Do you have any plans for the long weekend? My husband actually gets Labor Day off this year {perhaps the first time since we’ve been married – yay!} and we’re hoping to get a few house projects done. Growing up, my dad used to remind us that one of the best ways to celebrate the American worker was to be an American worker – and then tell us what the project for the day was! :) It didn’t used to be too much fun {except we always had a wonderful barbecue at then end of the day – mmm!}, but now that there’s the possibility that I could have a freshly painted bedroom? It sounds great!

And, not to leave you without a special sale for the Labor Day weekend {maybe a perfect time to stock up on decor and dessert toppers for fall celebrations?}, I have a coupon code for you! Use code LABORDAY20 for 20% off of any order in between now and midnight Monday!

I hope you all have a blessed, relaxing weekend <3

some loveliness for your Sunday

Ah, the end of August. Our garden is full of late-summer blooms, and our veggie patch {which I obviously couldn’t let be just a veggie patch} is keeping us stocked with tomatoes, basil, cilantro and green onions and the occasional cucumber. It’s been about two weeks since we’ve had any rain to speak of, and our yard is starting to show it. But the zinnias are holding strong! They love the heat, and our new little peach tree is bravely trying to offer us some sweetness {if our neighborhood squirrel doesn’t abscond with them first :)}.

The end of August is a bittersweet time of year here in Indiana as Summer begins to fade. I have a mum on our front porch {thanks Mom!} that speaks to the coming Autumn, and, if I can keep up with watering them, blooms on our hydrangeas and foxglove.

And this August has been a busy one in the shop – today it’s been good to rest. To enjoy these late Summer gifts of bounty. Of loveliness. Because God only gives us a few Summers here to enjoy them, to enjoy each other, to glory in His goodness. {but then, eternity after … ah, that will be glory indeed!} It’s so easy for me to get focused on the busy and forget to rest, even to feel guilty about leaving things undone as I rest, and today I’ve cast it aside to enjoy. And it is good.

I hope your weekend has been full of loveliness, Friends, in spite of the terrors our world has been through this last week. And I hope you are able to grab a few moments to soak it in, deeply, and to rest your souls.

Chair Garland Decor Ideas {a continuing series}

Chair Garland Decor Ideas {a continuing series}

Have you heard? The chair garlands in the shop aren’t just for decorating chairs!
When it comes to using these petite garlands, there are so many options that chairs are only the the start! This is a continuing series {see more posts here} where I’ll share some of my ideas with you {and, if you’d like to share some of yours, I’ll post them as well!}

DSC_0076 For the Summer holidays – Memorial Day, Ian’s birthday, Flag Day, the 4th of July, etc. – I am decorating with lots of red, white and blue. {those balloon in the reflection? they’re left over from Ian’s party :)}

This vintage mirror lightens a corner in our dining area downstairs, and as I was decorating for our little guy’s birthday I decided to see if one of the Red, White and Blue Chair Banners would fit across it to add an additional pop of color – and look at that, it fit perfectly!

How about you? Have you tried using one of these sweet, short lengths of garland in an unexpected spot? Share your ideas in the comments!

little pieces

little pieces

the photos that I capture on Instagram are just little pieces of our life, and it’s really interesting to see what moments I capture {and which ones I don’t} – of course, it seems as if {since I instagram from our iPad} I only capture the things that stand still. Which of course explains why Emma Grace, Ian and John don’t show up very often, but flowers, projects and Olivia do. :)

How Tuesday: growing Easter grass

How Tuesday: growing Easter grass

Have you seen how some people  {Design Mom has a few sweet posts on it} have grown their own Easter grass? No? It’s a super sweet idea, and this year I decided to give it a try! It’s a simple but meaningful way to add a special touch to your Easter celebrations. It’s a great object lesson for children about new life and putting something “dead” into the ground and watching God make it come to life. Kind of a nice segue into talking about the Resurrection :)

note: If you do this NOW you’ll have some darling little pots of real grass for Easter. Or, you know, if you start the wheatgrass growing in the next few days …. :) {if you’re like me, it works better to tell yourself that it needs to be done NOW – that way it will actually get done, maybe not “now”, but at least soon}

growing wheatgrass via the Path Less Traveled

It turns out that growing wheatgrass is really easy. All you need is some wheat, some water and some dirt {and maybe a container to put the dirt in}. Yep, really easy.

Step one: soak your wheat berries/seeds for a few hours or over night. This isn’t truly needed, but does speed up the sprouting process.

growing wheatgrass via the Path Less Traveled

Step two: gather your containers and dirt. I chose to use some egg shells for some of the containers – when the grass is a little taller I’m going to make a centerpiece for our table like this one {you should click over – it’ soooo pretty! I wish it was my idea first :)}

growing wheatgrass via the Path Less Traveled

If you choose to use egg shells, simply tap your egg all the way around near one end instead of in the middle as you’re cracking it, and rinse out the shell after you’ve dumped out the white and yolk.

Step three: fill your containers with soil. If you’re using a pot without a drain hole, place small rocks or packing peanuts in the bottom to provide some drainage and keep the seeds from rooting.

Step four: place your wheat berries on top of the soil, covering the surface with an even layer, and then cover the wheat with more soil.

Step five: water and wait. The seedlings should emerge in about 48 hours or so. Continue watering every day as it grows, and enjoy the bit of green!

These are the eggs five days after planting – by the time Easter is here, they may need a trim! I’ll clean up the shells in a few days once the sprouts are a bit sturdier and use some wax to create the centerpiece I mentioned. Maybe I’ll post a photo when it’s done!

Let me know if you try it!

Almost here. Spring is almost here. Almost.

spring is almost here via the Path Less Traveled

This is the sight that greeted me when I came downstairs this morning – our first crocus bloom.

spring is almost here via the Path Less Traveled

I know that I just said that I love snow, but seeing this little flower made me so happy this morning that I almost cried {part of that was due to only getting 3 hours sleep (sick babies!), but still … it made me really happy :)}.

spring is almost here via the Path Less Traveled

 So, do you love Winter? Are you sad to see it loosen it’s grip? Or are you eagerly embracing signs of Spring? Or both?

Don’t forget – tomorrow is the shipping deadline for St. Patrick’s Day! And it’s also the expiration date for the 20% off St. Patty’s Day items coupon {enter “lucky” when checking out to claim it}!
