crafting for a baby

crafting for a baby

Crafting for a sweet new baby is always a joy! A few weeks ago I had the privilege of making this entirely custom, delicate name banner for my precious new niece, and I had so much fun. Her mama is decorating the baby Cora’s new space in blush and glittery gold, so I even got to use some of my current favorite papers. :)a personalized name banner for a baby - perfect for both a baby shower and a birthday party! | the Path Less Traveled

Her mama is decorating the nursery for this babe in gold and pink, so I had a ton of fun making a sweet, girly and glittery name banner for baby Cora using some of my favorite papers and ribbons. I went with scalloped circles in a vintage rose print for the background and gold glitter for the letters, all strung on a light rose satin ribbon. So feminine, and suitable for both a baby and a growing girl.

I am experimenting in making our the name banners in our shop in this double-layered look, and enjoyed doing the same for little Miss Cora, giving her special garland an extra bit of style and texture. The glitter gold played so beautifully off of the vintage rose print!

These multilayered banners are something I love making, and there are so many options!!! We are planning to add a variety of them to the shop in the next little while, and are just having a bit of trouble deciding exactly which options to offer {there are soooooo many!}. If you have something in mind that you’d like to see, we’d love to hear about it. :)

What do you think? Would you like to see more of this rich, layered look in our pieces? I’d love to hear!

customer love – a bit of vintage music

customer love – a bit of vintage music

What better way to start off a Monday than with a few lovely photos {and a large cup of coffee!}? This morning I have a few gorgeous pictures from a customer’s watercolor and vintage music themed wedding – they’re so pretty!waterclor wedding She used our Vintage Music Confetti Hearts to scatter around the guest book table, adding a layer of texture and interest to the decor.watercolor and vintage music themed wedding on the Path Less TraveledAnd then her niece scattered the hearts on the guest tables – and even on TOP of the flowers! I love this idea –  and brought the look together with style and charm.

Thank you so much for sharing these lovely images, Simone! Your wedding was lovely, and I hope you and your new husband are enjoying a wonderful season as newlyweds, and that you will be blessed with a lifetime of joy.

Do you have photos that you’d like to share? If so, you can either email them to me at elizabeth@pltmarket.com or tag them with #thepathlesstraveledmarket on Instagram {as long as you have a public profile :)} – we’d all love to see your ideas! Also, I often send “thank you” coupons to the lovelies who let me share their photos with you – so if you’re looking for a coupon for your next order, sharing photos is a great way to get a discount!

autumn thistles | the Path Less Traveled autumn thistles | the Path Less Traveled

These were just simple weeds on the edge of a parking lot. Until I took a second glance, and saw the beautiful purple and green, the spiny forms that would look so lovely in a pewter vase on our autumn table.

How often this is true in life! Things, circumstances, people that we first see as simple, ordinary, or thorn-covered, when we look closer are beauty-full.

May you see the beauty in the everyday ordinary bits of your day today. <3

I love how easy and carefree zinnias and cosmos are! {and when it comes to gardening in this current life season, easy is good!} They tolerate all sorts of abuse, and just when the rest of the yard is tired from the length and heat of the summer, they are at their finest. And aren’t those double {or are the triple?} “firework” zinnias just spectacular?!

Do you have something special brightening your days today? Something that makes you smile each time you see it?

’till tomorrow, <3

some loveliness for your Sunday

Ah, the end of August. Our garden is full of late-summer blooms, and our veggie patch {which I obviously couldn’t let be just a veggie patch} is keeping us stocked with tomatoes, basil, cilantro and green onions and the occasional cucumber. It’s been about two weeks since we’ve had any rain to speak of, and our yard is starting to show it. But the zinnias are holding strong! They love the heat, and our new little peach tree is bravely trying to offer us some sweetness {if our neighborhood squirrel doesn’t abscond with them first :)}.

The end of August is a bittersweet time of year here in Indiana as Summer begins to fade. I have a mum on our front porch {thanks Mom!} that speaks to the coming Autumn, and, if I can keep up with watering them, blooms on our hydrangeas and foxglove.

And this August has been a busy one in the shop – today it’s been good to rest. To enjoy these late Summer gifts of bounty. Of loveliness. Because God only gives us a few Summers here to enjoy them, to enjoy each other, to glory in His goodness. {but then, eternity after … ah, that will be glory indeed!} It’s so easy for me to get focused on the busy and forget to rest, even to feel guilty about leaving things undone as I rest, and today I’ve cast it aside to enjoy. And it is good.

I hope your weekend has been full of loveliness, Friends, in spite of the terrors our world has been through this last week. And I hope you are able to grab a few moments to soak it in, deeply, and to rest your souls.

little bits of life

little bits of life

It’s about time for an Instagram update on the little bits of our life, don’t you think?

{If you’d like to follow along, I’m @pltmarket on Instagram <3}IMG_0039 coming soon to the shop – strawberry shortcake toppers!IMG_0041 and the yummy, yummy left overs from taking the photos – taking your own photos can be hard, but the side effects are worth it :)IMG_0042I experimented with custom dying some doilies for a peach colored version of my doily garland – love how they turned out! And I’m thinking of adding something similar to the shop – thoughts?
IMG_0052 this darling keeps getting sweeter! This last month Olivia was working on cutting teeth {and especially needy for her mama!} and we’ve been experimenting with new foods for her. She loves just about everything so far!IMG_0056Have you seen the recipe for liquid sidewalk chalk that’s been going around Pinterest? It’s really simple {just 1 part corn starch to 1 part water, and add food color to achieve desired colors} and has been hugely enjoyed by our kiddos.

IMG_0130How gorgeous are these?! My in-laws have some massive hydrangea bushes, and I’ve been given permission to trim to my heart’s content :) Oh my, do these ever feed my soul!
IMG_0135Baby girl, just layin’ around. And being adorable {of course} and melting my heart. And deciding to abandon her pacifier in favor of her thumb. No biggie {what?! No more binky?!}

IMG_0147A bride ordered a large batch of custom cake toppers, one set of which was made of these gorgeous cake flags. Love how they turned out!IMG_0149More adorableness <3 {and it’s a video}IMG_0170Custom stamped cupcake toppers! A customer requested the pink heart toppers stamped with “BABY” and they were so darling {by the way, did you know that any of my toppers can be customized? Just ask for details if you’re interested :)}IMG_0174Have you seen the darling polka dot paper stars that I have in my Etsy shop? A few days ago a custom inquired about getting the dots in custom colors, and I was able to find them! They’ll be so sweet in her nursery :)IMG_0176 Zinnias from our yard – I know you’ve heard me say it over and over, but I love my flowers. Who was it who said “the earth laughs in flowers”? Few things brighten my day like their fresh loveliness {of course, snuggles from my husband and babies are pretty high up on the list, too}!IMG_0179 Mmm, prepping to make lemon sorbet – it was amazingly delicious, by the way!IMG_0181

And lastly, have you met Kellie from Lemondime? She hostessing a wonderful craft weekend {Craft Liberation!} soon, and I got to contribute some goodies to their swag bags! It looks so amazing, and I’d love to go – since I can’t though, my special little gifts will :)

There you have it – another peek in to our life. It’s kind of fun to see it all compressed together!

Do you have an Instagram account? I’d love to connect and “meet” you!

Have you heard of Amy Merrick or seen images of her floral arrangements? If you haven’t, I recommend {highly, HIGHLY recommend} hopping over to her site and browsing through her blog. The displays she styles are pure gorgeousness!

See what I mean? And her photography is rather inspiring, too :)

Oh, how I wish I could crawl into these photos, soak in the glory of these petals and surround myself with their perfection every day. Can you tell I’m in love?

Whenever I see one of her posts pop into my inbox, I know my soul is about to be refreshed.

Do you have artists that inspire you, whose work feeds your spirit?

Instagram bits

Instagram bits

the photos that I capture on Instagram are just little bits and pieces of our life, and it’s really interesting to see what moments I capture {and which ones I don’t} – of course, it seems as if {since I instagram from our iPad} I only capture the things that stand still. Which of course explains why Emma Grace, Ian and John don’t show up very often, but flowers, projects and Olivia do. :)

This week’s post is kind of a catch-up – so you get two weeks rolled into one. Enjoy!Mother's Day RosesMy Mother’s Day rose bush is looking so lovely <3 I’m a rose lover! Especially the soft colors – pink, white, even gray and soft purple – and the full, blowsy cottage types. :)
IMG_2416 I asked – and you answered! This storage dresser in the sewing room might be getting a do-over, and many of you chimed in with your color suggestions. Thank you!IMG_2421 A sweet color combo on the It’s A Girl! cupcake toppers – I normally stamp the girl version with pink ink onto either vintage or white paper, and this customer asked to add some pink on pink – they turned out super darling!IMG_2426 our darling baby being her sweet little self <3IMG_2431 It’s graduation season! These purple stars are the size I normally carry in the shop, and the large gold ones are coming soon!IMG_2433 a custom bouquet of “Congrats Grad!” and “Class of 2013” dessert toppersIMG_2441

John had a week of vacation, and we spent most of it at home {or with my in-laws}. We did get away for an overnight, though! Brown County is Indiana’s largest state park, and quite lovely {and quite!} this time of year. We took the kiddos to Story Inn for the night, and then for a bit of an explore in the park itself the next day. They loved being on an “adventure” so much.IMG_2443 A sweet color combo! These purple and pink butterfly toppers are on their way to a baby girl’s first birthday party :)IMG_2445 And my baby girl just keeps getting bigger! She’s a roller now, and loves to roll her way across the room. She started out on the blanket in the lower right, and made it all the  way to my stash of baker’s twine on the other side of the sewing room. :)IMG_2446

How about you – you Instagram? What do you find shows up as a recurring theme in your photos?

Also, don’t forget to use the shop’s free shipping coupon if you’re planning on stocking up on any summer party goods! It expires tomorrow night, so don’t dilly dally too long :)
