IKEA winter sale

IKEA winter sale

Josh
Nathan
My mother-in-law Teri, Sarah and the younger guys came down on Monday and we trecked IKEA.
Or, at least, I think the guys were with us ……..
IKEA’s winter sale is going on, and some of the prices are down 30-50%. After a little bt of considering, I picked up a few things that I had had my eye on for a while, such as:

the Molger bath organizer for 5.99

There were a few other things that I wanted to get, though I still need to think them over/ talk them over with John:

the Gulliver childrens chair (I want at least two, maybe four) for 7.99 each, half off … which means if we get four we’d only be paying the price of two … but then we’d have to find a place for them ……… maybe?
Not bad at all, especially considering that they’re wood!

the Gulliver childrens table to match the chairs, at 14.99

We’ll have to see. We don’t really need them now, but will they ever be this cheap again? We don’t have a place to set them up, except, perhaps for one chair, but the boxes are flat! Oh, decisions.

Well, we had a great time there, and came back tired, with sore feet and a few goodies. Thanks for coming down guys! It was great seeing you!

Things are coming together in Baby’s room. Half of it is taken up by the guest bed, which at the moment happens to be covered in projects that I am working on and boxes that I am going through, but the other half is looking rather sweet. We have had so much fun putting the room together. Parts of it are still rather hodgepodge-ey, but I think the idea that I originally had is finally coming through.
Along the way we had a few course shifts from the original plan:
  • The crib, originally brown wood, stayed brown wood even though we were going to paint it a creamy white. We may still re-paint it, but then again, the wood looks fine!
  • The recliner that we already had ended up being a much more comfortable chair for feeding Baby than the rocker that we found and recovered.

There are still a few things that need to be figured out or “found”, such as, what are we going to use for a changing table? A dresser would be great – especially if it had shelf and drawer space. Also, the room doesn’t quite seem tied together yet. I can’t put my finger on it, but that little “something” just doesn’t seem to be there. Maybe I’m too picky, or just have been working at it so long that I can’t step back and admire. Anyone have an idea for how to bring it all together?

In the meantime, John and I are eagerly awaiting our Little One. We went to visit the mid-wife yesterday, and she was pleased at how we’re growing! Baby is 34 weeks old, head down with her feet up. Those little feet are pretty active, too! They tend to find their way up under my ribs, making it a little tricky to bend over or get comfortable. Soon enough, though, I know I’ll miss that feeling.

Saturday morning in December

Saturday morning in December

This, plus reading Luke 3 and the weekend edition of NPR, has been my morning so far. Oh – I made some fudge, too. It was a good and cozy way to spend my snowy morning.

** evening update **

So, I put up my feet for a while and then got antsy, so I made pumpkin banana nut muffins and the dough for soft and spicy gingerbread cookies. And worked on the dishes that had piled up. :) After all of which my wonderful husband came home (to an apartment that smelled like heaven) and told me I needed to put my feet up again while he, tired though he was, got something together for dinner. I love that man.

This morning John and I went to visit the midwife again, and we came home knowing that both baby and mama are doing great. Both healthy and growing, though my blood pressure is a bit low – 112 over 60-ish – and she had no explanation for why my hair keeps falling out. Silly me, it’s supposed to fall out after Baby is born, not before. Baby even put on a little show for her by moving all around when she tried to listen for the heartbeat (which is loud and strong!).

tropical storm Ike

tropical storm Ike

Yesterday the remnants of tropical storm Ike came through – sometimes at 60+ miles an hour (notice the shingles on the church lifting up)!

Ike promptly knocked out our electricity, so we had to improvise when it came to cooking dinner (and the headlamps from Anna came in VERY handy – thank you again!).
As the electricity was out, we had to do something else for dinner. The apartment complex does not allow BBQs, so … this was a surprisingly efficient substitute. The hot dogs actually got quite hot, and even had grill marks on them. :)
It even worked to boil water for tea this afternoon, and I was going to use the candles again for dinner tonight, but the power came back on just before I was going to light them. Bummer. (jk)

And today, to occupy myself with no electricity (a fun word to spell, by the way), I took random pictures of my tea, the apartment ……. You might get to see a few more later.
